Behavioral Health
Behavioral Health Consultations
CVHS Health Services promotes integrated care meaning that we care about all patients’ medical, dental, and mental wellness. Our care is coordinated and we have a common electronic medical record. Behavioral health clinicians (BHC) may consult during a medical or dental visit to assess and give recommendations for needed health behavior change such as smoking cessation, weight loss, sleep and mental health concerns. There is no additional charge for these brief consultations.

Psychotherapy
CVHS offers individual, group, and family counseling for all ages at most CVHS sites. Counseling is offered in person and by telehealth. CVHS behavioral health clinicians (BHC’s) treat and support patients presenting with depression, bipolar disorder, generalized anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, substance use disorders, concerns specific to the LGBTQ community, and more.
Psychological Testing
Adult patients established with CVHS for medical and/or behavioral health counseling may be referred for psychological testing specifically to determine whether someone has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, to measure cognitive capacity (IQ), or to identify a possible personality disorder. Testing is offered regionally at these CVHS sites (Caroline, Charlotte, Charlottesville, Farmville, and Petersburg Recovery Center.)
Psychiatric Medication Management
CVHS Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP’s) can consult with your primary care provider (PCP) to suggest some psychiatric medication adjustments that the PCP will make themselves. Alternatively, your medical provider could refer you to see a PMHNP for a psychiatric medication assessment and some initial medication management. Once a psychiatric medication regimen is working well, your primary care provider may resume management of all your medications. Appointments with a PMHNP are offered only via telehealth. You will come to your local CVHS site for your initial PMHNP appointment and some thereafter.
