Charles City Regional Health Services active in promoting a Healthy Community
The Charles City Regional Health Services is very interested in helping the communities this site serves to stay healthy. In addition to offering primary medical, dental and behavioral health services to it's patients, the site also coordinates a Lay Health Promotion program and a Journey to Fitness Program. CCRHS has received grant funding from the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation to conduct lay health promotion programs which encourage residents from the community to learn general health facts and basic skills that can help them to help their friends, families and neighbors to identify health concerns that might indicate they should see a medical provider for treatment. This can help with early detection of chronic diseases such as high-blood pressure or diabetes or more significant issues such as educating folks about cancer screening procedures that can help identify cancer in early stages for best treatment and outcome.
We are also in partnership with the Williamsburg Community Health Foundation and the Charles City County Parks & Recreation department to host Journey to Fitness sessions. These classes help adults in the community by instructing in the proper use of equipment that is available in the County facility as well as identify a fitness regime that is appropriate for their age and physical fitness level. This partnership has also allowed for the purchase of additional equipment to be added to the county facility. This group, self-titled the Movers & Shakers of Charles City, are successfully committing to gradually adding exercise into their daily routine to help manage chronic diseases as well as increasing their general fitness level.

Charles City Welcomes New Dentist to Staff
Charles City Regional Health Services welcomed Dr. Brigid McDowell to the staff in July. Dr. McDowell, a recent graduate of the Dental School at the Medical College of Virginia, is happy to be serving the community of Charles City. Dr. McDowell, a native of Grundy, VA is very committed to the rural populations of Virginia and meeting the unique dental needs that these communities have historically had due to limited access. Dr. McDowell will see adult and children for dental services and appointments made be made by calling the Charles City office.
